dirty posters

while researching into how stains and marks can create patterns i found this;

Dirt Poster is a Design and Graphic-Design work made by Roland Reiner Tiangco,
the poster as you open it slowly gets youre hands dirty and allows you to see what the posters all about.

shanghai tree crossing.

china environmental protection foundation started a project trying to get people to walk instead of using their cars, using a large canvas printing a leafless tree and allowing pedestrians to paint their own foot prints to create the leaves in the tree.

it links into the idea of not controlling the pattern created and allowing the final outcome to be this unique blossoming tree.

Intentions project.

for this project i wanted to look into the idea of accidental patterns, how patterns are create without interaction controlling it allowing a natural untainted process, looking for different repetitions which create patterns other people would never notice..

Firstly i want to start looking into natural patters, seen in trees, leaves,

also looking into how stains can create patterns, rust, wine, something that can develope over a certain period of time, layers?

final ideas of exhibitions and abit of an evaluation on my progress through the project..

prep for my final idea? i wanted to use the billboard piece i have to make spiral sculptures, i will either have them suspended of free standing, im leaning more towards free standing at the minute.

i find looking at my smaller scaled version it looks abit like a worn out city, with the different layers from the many posters built up, going along with the idea of my project, looking into reworking into a piece of material, and me creating smaller building-esk sculptures out of a material that has been apart of the urban landscape that is manchester i fell im giving it new life creating my own little urban landscape, i will however enlarge the smaller sculpture giving it more effect.
i think i have enjoyed the overall project and my work had reflected a good amount of reflection in my sketchbook although being a little bit lost by the structure of this course at the beginning i have slowly gotten into a comfortable rhythm, i feel i could of produced a lot more work if work on my defining a smaller group idea, i find i have too many ideas at the same time and it can become confusing but i think im getting a lot better at narrowing down my ideas.

drawing seen in the post show my ideas for my final piece for the exhibition.

peony yip Animal Morphing Illustrations

Peony Yip
Animal morphing Illustrations.

illustration work of Hong Kong based artist Peony Yip. I really love all her pencil work, but especially these animal morphing illustrations overlayed on females faces, exploring the relationship between human, animal and nature.

I also really liked how she matched the expressions of the models and translating it into the expressions of different animals, i think this link well into the idea of layering that im exploring in my own work, but the neat drawing aspect of her work i dont think ill take much inspiration. But her drawing are extremely fine an beautiful.

spiral sculptures

i wanted to create something 3d, i was getting fed up with working on a flat surface so i started trying to create free standing sculptures and after making, quite alot of them i found that all of it looked like a derelict urban landscape made from something that had be apart of our own urban landscape of grey manchester (its been raining way to much!) and so i want to try and up the scale of these pieces!

billboard

i currently have a huge billboard that im slowly ripping apart, and i decided to take my continuos drawings onto the piece of billboard i took home with me, i like the way the paints slightly seeped through the different layers of the billboard.

accidental layout

thought id share this photo i just had it piled in my sketchbook and i liked the colours and textures in contrast to the photos so i snapped a photo..

The Boyle Family, textures.

Looking in to the Boyle family and how they create textures in their 'world Series' exhibition, i really like how the 'create' these different textures themselves, and the attention to detail is amazing aswell.

continouse ink paintings

Experimenting with the idea of layering and working into the photographs i had taken earlier on in my project.
i also accidently printed all the photos in black and white, but i find that i prefer the black and white versions to the colour giving it a grittier effect.

with the ink i was attempting to drawing from other photos without taking the paint off the page dripping a continuous line creating many type of marks and shapes.

Abstract photography..

Using reflective surface to capture the city.. I want to try this out!

Surfaces, texture, and manchester

'WHAT SHOULD THE SURFACE OF OUR CITIES LOOK LIKE?'

this line caught my attention and made me thinking about how we affect our cities how we create the textures allow abandoned buildings to overgrow and create different types of textures and characters in our cities.

'The surface of future cities is a multicolored texture formed by its people.'

i really enjoyed the idea of how we can shape and mould our city and this is demonstrated so much in manchester with parts that are completely derelict and other parts full of life with eye catching graffiti and small reflections of residents characters shown on every street corner.

if europe was on one big map.. (david adjaye)

I wanted to start looking into the textures and marks manchester creates, and while research i found the work of David Adjaye, who's work shows a large map combining all the cities in europe looking into the lines and textures create by these different maps...

sculptures and paintings

i love the idea of pairing something 3d with a flat picture, such an amazing idea and the textures it creates, it shows that it all depends on viewpoints..

invisible cities.

When i first read the brief,
I went straight for a book i had aquired during my foundation year;
its about the marco polo describing the city of venice, but he describes it in such a way that you believe he is describing many different beautiful cities. its something that gives you such vivid and amazing visual imagery while reading, and show that the one persons view and description of one city can change and shape your own ideas about that particular city!

i highly recommend you check it out...

blog task.

My initial expectations where very vague at the beginning of the project, i wanted to take myself out of my comfort zone so i chose digital to allow me to add to my work so i didn't really have many expectations, i think that i have improved greatly using digital and this allows me to create quicker experiments and unique work, i find that i want to improve more with my drawing and stretch the idea of what can i draw with?

Decision wise in my project i allowed my ideas to roam freely and tried not to constrict myself in my thought process i felt that i managed to create a nice flow in my project allowing me to move smoothly into writing my own brief.

i find that if you add too much distraction around samples it could take away from the overall effect, but most of my work allows me to be able to present them in a chaotic fashion as i like to have a page full of something visually interesting then a page that is blank and boring, which means i prefer to put samples in my sketchbook if linkable.

i wouldn't make any changes the only this i would like is to be able to do is revisit this idea with a fresh mind.

the contextual references i used helped develop my ideas a lot in my project, i used most reference and try to put my own ideas towards the artists techniques allowing me to develop further into my project.

comparing my work with other students allows me to see a different side to an idea, it allows me to see a fresh new angle to something i would of never thought of, as well as allowing me to try and develop my work even further.
