Felt droplets

I wanted to grander my ideas of dripping paint down paper into material. I then decided to created felt balls combining colours and incorporating still and other material and cutting them into flat shapes I then by size arranged and sewed the pieces together created a droplets effect across any service it is placed upon.
I would live to enlarge the scale and carry this idea on furthur.

sketchbook

i began my project with looking at the lost rivers and where these rivers originate from, what part of manchester city do they run over and how long have these rivers been there for? i then decided to mark all these rivers on printed maps, while doing that i started to notice the the patterns created form the river journey through the city i then started to look into how maps created patterns in themselves from journeys people make to just the streets and the structure i then started to look into different types of maps and the patterns created in them.

i felt that my visual documentation of my work is very clear and precise and explanations are accessible allowing the reader to understand my thought process, although i feel that more annotation could be added and smaller drawing to explain ideas more.

here is clearly showing my interest in mark making and that the all pages are linked in well, i have made references to many different artists, Jackson Pollock, Candy Jeringham and many more making the contextual side of my work well linked in and clear that they are very much what inspire my sketchbook work.

this page showing mark making occurring on found objects using threads and pieces of material.
clear linking of my work
i feel i need to do much more broader research visiting more galleries that relate to my work.
i need to be able to filtre all my ideas and pick out the more important and successful points this would probably allow me to work at a faster pace and be able to experiment more.

I have alot of mixed ways of drawing, sewing, pencil, paint, maybe even mixing them all into one piece i feel that i able to show many different ways of 'drawing' and have been able to express myself freely when it comes to putting my ideas down and drawing them in many different mediums.

i find that the pattern in my work is a fluid process and most of my ideas lead greater exploration of my project, my sketchbook seems to have a smooth flow through out all of my work and ideas.

i had a slight problem at the beginning of the project as i need to pick up more speed but i felt that i have explored a wide variety of ideas that i feel i could still carry on in other projects to come.

more large scale ink experimentation

i wanted to look more into controlling the ink droplets and decided to add masking tape to try and disrupt the path of the the paint.
I wanted to use the colours seen in the picture above  ^
, i liked the blues and dark purples and black tones used so i tried to incorporate colour into my larger scaled drawings

in the end i felt that it was a extremely successful experiment and i want to try and created other pieces using the same idea of movement.

using photoshop i started playing around with the different texture tools, and found this photograph of a larger scale painting i didn't lends well towards my project as it just bring out the different types of marks made in the photograph.

i would like to the created embroidery piece inspired by this photograph i feel that it would be a very interesting piece to work from.

transferring ink drawings into felt

another part of my project i wanted to transfer my ink drawings into material and 3D after learning how to created felt balls i wanted to use the colours and the technique of allowing the fluid movement to carry from the paper and paint into the felt balls.
i mixed black and white wool together and adding thread into the balls which i felt linked well into my ink drawings because the thread has it own movement and i have allowed it to run freely through the felt ball like the paint runs freely over the found paper canvas that i had made.

i want to try and carry on experimenting with this idea adding different colours and texture to my felt balls.

Dog Project

For my dog project i decided mine would be some type of camouflage dog.

as we were meeting to have a picnic i felt that making him out of grass would something i could easily show my dogs ability to blend into the grassy background.
using a simple dog pattern i then printed photographs that i had taken myself and printed these photos onto heat transferable paper transferring it onto my material allowing me to print the grassy print on it. i didn't want to add to much facial detail incase it ruined the dogs ability to blend into the grass so i only added his nose in the closest colour to the grass and felt that was enough.

the only difficulty i had with my dog was the transferred prints would peels off whenever stitched in a certain place repeatedly which became difficult when attaching the ears and head to the rest of the the body. but apart from that i felt that my project cam out very successfully and i enjoyed the whole process of making it.

large 1M x 1M recycled drip piece

my piece before i started working into it, i started out looking at allowing the
ink to find it own path and to travel across the found pieces of paper that i used as a type of canvas.
i only used black and white media..
(except for the brown paper i felt it added to the overall drawing i didn't like how it was only black and white i wanted to incorporate my found colours)

I then decieded that i wanted to hang the piece horizontally and to have the dripped lines from the ink seem like they were in a downwards motion giving it movent and changing the whole structure of the drawing.

I needed to find a solution to attached my cut of pieces and i felt sewing them in a random manner would keep to the themes that i was working towards and add character to the drawing.

after attaching of my pieces together i decided that i would go against the line already created by the ink, and sew in a random manner, i felt that it was a successful experiment and i want to carry on the process of sewing into found objects.
