Digital landscapes + hand drawn imagery.

For my digital print part of my project i started trying to make landscapes while incorparating my animals, i started using found material instead of using a white background to refresh the look i had been working with when illustrated my animals by hand, i started combining my hand drawn work with digital shapes and techniques.

Surface Print Exploration.

One of the avenues that i wanted to explore during this project, i wanted to be able to bring my illustrated animals into many different contexts, and expanded where my designs can go. this three images are the beginning of my exploration into surface print design, and i felt that they overall was a successful collection in that area.

animal Character development.

During my time trying to incorporate my characters into working backgrounds, i found myself refining the character drawings i had done earlier and adding more drawing into the collection as well as editing them digitally as well. i wanted to keep the hand drawn style, and wanted to complement the style by adding textures that i had created as well as found in nature and man made textures (E.g. buildings, metal) sticking to my colour pallet i personally think I've managed to create a pretty successful images.

Attempted background and reflections on outcomes.

This particular Image didn't work due to the lack of shadow that i need to start placing into my images when placed in a background as the overall look just doesn't work.

with this image i was experimenting with placing both my animals and my tree illustrations into one image, as well as trying to develop a background and foreground, really didn't like the outcome, felt it was abit childish and i didn't like the combination of colours.

I like the background and the character seperately, as they would make really good prints, but together their too busy, and your way too distracted with what going on in both parts to be able to appreciate the detail in both parts.

I found again that separately they work, but together, the colours and contrasts i don't like.

too busy again, and the colours don't compliment each other very well, i could us the character and background separately to make a successful surface print.

Silhouettes of animals. photoshop

After getting comfortable with photoshop i started scanning more of my drawings in. i needed to start thinking about backgrounds, and how to tell a story with my characters, i started to play around with adding a background into the silhouette of the animals that i had drawn, and in itself allowing the idea of showing where i see my animals, and telling their own story inside the shape, i really liked the outcome, but it didn't quiet fit in with the idea of creating characters to tell a story, so Ive to decided to leave and maybe use them a separate designs, for surface prints.

editing animals.

Ive been experimenting with using different techniques to my animal characters, using a mixture of different media (Paint, collage, fine liners,) and digitally by scanning my original drawings into photoshop and playing around with different texture, I've found so far I've liked the control of working with my hands on paper, than digital. the deer and the foxes i liked due to the primitive style it managed to create, but as i started to get more comfortable with photoshop and the overall effect i wanted to give my animal characters, i started to prefer the cleaner imagery photoshop allowed me to achieve.
